This year's Annapolis to Newport Race was grueling yet exciting for Oakcliff sailors.
Farr 40 Blue & Black left the start line in Annapolis with a full fleet, but soon after competitors stared to turn around due to rough conditions predicted outside of the safety of the Chesapeake. As more and more boats headed back towards Annapolis, Farr 40 Blue & Black had to weigh their options and the possible risks of continuing to Newport.
When all was said and done, 33 of 62 competitors retired from the race; more than half of the original fleet. Not included among these retirees were both Oakcliff teams, who rose to the challenge and pushed through the high winds and seas.
To top it off, Farr 40 Blue won the A2N Youth Challenge Trophy. This trophy is awarded to the top finisher with a crew of at least 3 sailors under the age of 25. Our team far surpassed that quota with a total of 7 out of 10 crew members under 25!
