Research into alternative crab trap designs
by Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW 30 Apr 2023 22:43 UTC
Eliza Hoyland, an honours student in Coastal and Marine Science at the University of Newcastle is researching alternative crab trap designs, and recreational fishers' perceptions of them.
She is researching the perceptions of fishers in NSW and why they may, or may not, be in support of modifications.
She is currently looking for recreational fishers who are able to do a survey over the phone, or via email. Her project is in two parts, one of which gauges recreational fishers' perceptions of modified technology and the other which seeks out recreational crab fishers more specifically, to complete an alternative survey and also trial a modified trap if they are interested.
There is an information sheet here with details of Eliza's research and all contact details.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated as it is valuable to her research and also the future management of fisheries in NSW.
