Daiwa's next generation Saltiga

by Daiwa 14 Jul 19:51 UTC

Being born in the SALTIGA family comes with lofty expectations. You're expected to be intelligent as Musk and DaVinci; valedictorian of your class; smooth as Air Jordan; and post wins like Belichick and Lombardi.

That's a lot to ask, yet precisely what DAIWA's new supersized 25 SALTIGA® series delivers...and with gusto.

Coming to life in maneater sizes 8000 to 25000, the supersized 25 SALTIGA is armed to take on North America's largest denizens of the deep. "It's built to tangle with serious big game like marlin, jumbo stripers, reef-donkey amberjack, silver-king tarpon, goliath grouper, and huge tuna," said DAIWA Field Marketing Specialist, Chris Martin.

Firstly, Martin pointed to the 25 SALTIGA's progressed DRD™ roller drag system. "Made of metal, not carbon fiber, it generates far less heat under extreme pressure. You'll find DRD on the 18000, 20000, and 25000-sizes."

"It's the first major improvement in drag systems in decades..."

DRD can withstand the repeated running of large fish over a long period of time and prevents wear and tear—and drag seizure—at high drag ranges. The DRD washer, equipped with eight metal rollers on one metal plate, replaces traditional carbon washers to prevent the drag force from decreasing due to frictional heat and is more than 5x more durable than carbon washers.

To fight and win battles of that magnitude require reliable power. Martin explained: "The centerpiece of the 25 SALTIGA is DAIWA's new POWERDRIVE™ DESIGN. For one, the new system includes a larger and thicker drive gear. The 25 SALTIGA's G1 Duralumin Tough DIGIGEAR® is 10% larger and 6% thicker than previous models and is DAIWA's strongest gearing ever. Additionally, there's a better transfer of power and the gears last longer."

Oscillation is advanced, too, due to the POWERDRIVE DESIGN. "While fighting a fish, there is zero resistance from the oscillation system, so you have an easier time cranking the handle and gaining line," said Martin.

The new POWERDRIVE ROTOR also plays an important role as well. "The high-strength spherical aluminum rotor is symmetrical and extremely balanced around the axis of rotation, which provides high rigidity," said Martin.

The bail and line roller mounted on the rotor have also been redesigned, allowing for accurate line release and a smooth transition to winding operation.

The 25 SALTIGA's spool is equally notable, engineered for big bites on big water. "The LONG CAST (LC) ABS SW SPOOL is optimized with a two-step taper toward the spool ring, reducing friction for smoother and longer casts," said Martin.

Your favorite canoe-sized fish with V8 motors have met their match. Welcome the new 25 SALTIGA...

25 Saltiga features:

Monocoque (MQ®) Frame
A one-piece aluminum body that serves as a rigid and distortion-proof frame, while the elimination of screws and their sockets allows for a smaller reel body yet increased gear sizing. MQ design also offers more stability, power, torque, and water resistance.

PowerDrive™ Design
DAIWA's next generation of large spinning reels engineered to target and tame the largest fish in the ocean. POWERDRIVE DESIGN consists of two significant technologies: POWERDRIVE ENGINE (body unit) and POWERDRIVE ROTOR (rotor unit).

PowerDrive™ Engine
The extremely durable G1 Duralumin Tough DIGIGEAR® has been made 10% larger and 6% thicker, making it DAIWA's strongest gearing ever. When fighting large fish under high pressure, the frictional resistance of the oscillation mechanism leads to a loss of power transmission. With the POWERDRIVE ENGINE, the sliding pillar has been upgraded to a two ball-bearing oscillator, which improves oscillation efficiency by approximately 30%, providing a smooth initial response and powerful backend.

PowerDrive™ Rotor
The high-strength spherical aluminum rotor achieves both high rigidity and low inertia. The unique spherical rotor shape is symmetrical and highly balanced around the axis of rotation, which provides high rigidity against sudden external forces. The bail and line roller mounted on the rotor have also been redesigned, allowing for accurate line release and a smooth transition to winding operation. The POWERDRIVE ROTOR is composed of two key technologies: Crank Power Bail and Tough Line Roller System.

DRD™
A revolutionary drag system, DRD can withstand the repeated running of large fish over a long period of time and prevents wear and tear—and drag seizure—at high drag ranges. The DRD washer, equipped with eight metal rollers on one metal plate, replaces traditional carbon washers to prevent the drag force from decreasing due to frictional heat and is more than 5x more durable than carbon washers.

Crank Power Bail
The novel bail shape with optimally inclined crank and strengthened spring mechanism ensure that the tensioned line is precision guided to the line roller to prevent unexpected opening and closing. Additionally, the hollow pipe structure with thick shaft also ensures high rigidity. Moreover, the opening and closing angle of the bail have been improved.

Tough Line Roller System
To withstand repeated high loads, the roller shaft features a larger support surface and is integrated with the bail arm, eliminating any rattling at the joint, while significantly improving durability. The newly designed line roller also reduces friction with the line to achieve lighter winding. Additionally, the roller shaft support surface is larger and weathers repeated high loads, while the direction of the screws has been changed to integrate the roller shaft and bail arm. There are no joints in the most heavily loaded area, increasing rigidity.

Magsealed® main shaft, line roller, and drive gear ball-bearing
Exclusive to DAIWA, a magnetic liquid wall prevents water and foreign matter from contacting critical components, guarding against rust, salt buildup, and noise, while maintaining maximum rotational performance.

CRBB
Unlike ordinary, unprotected "corrosion resistant" ball bearings, DAIWA's CRBB ball bearings are shielded to seal out sand, fine grit, salt crystals, and other abrasives for a longer life. CRBB ball bearings are 12 times more corrosion resistant than standard ball bearings.

ATD® Tough Drag System
Delivers superior strength, smoothness, and reliability employing a large carbon washer stack (sizes up to 14000). DAIWA's ATD also employs an advanced drag grease that exhibits low viscosity at rest yet becomes more viscous immediately after drag start up. This reduces initial drag start-up inertia and results in a smoother drag from the initial hook up.

LC (Long Cast) ABS SW Spool
Designed for use with heavy braids, LC ABS SW spool greatly enhances power and rigidity. The spool's upper section is optimized with a two-step taper toward the spool ring, minimizing friction for smoother line release. Its narrow width prevents tangling, even during the final stages of casting with less line remaining, which improves casting distance.

MSRP $1,099 to $1,199
