Tasmanian Fishing Report - 31 August 2022

With this warmer weather the Central Highlands lakes have been producing quality fish. Also this week there are still a few tuna kicking about and stripy trumpeter about to close. As well as a tagged trout from Brady's.

Freshwater

• Crescent - The fishing has been tough but rewarding, some anglers are finding very good fish.
• Penstock - High catch rates continue to draw anglers to the lake, most finding fish moving during overcast conditions.
• Little Pine Lagoon - The water level has dropped a little and the fish have moved more into the deeper areas of the lake, but anglers are still getting good numbers of smaller fish.
• Bronte, Brady's and Binney - Good numbers of fish have been caught throughout the Bronte chain, trolling angers have been getting their bag quite easily in all the lakes. Bronte has still fished well in the flooded margins for both spin and fly anglers.
• Woods - Good numbers of reasonable fish have been caught over the last week. Trolling and drift spinning has been the most effective choice.
• Derwent River - Both resident and sea run trout have been caught throughout the Derwent system of late. The most productive spot seems to have been around the Australian Power Boats Course and the Lime Kilns.
• Arthurs Lake - Often overlooked this time of year, but Arthurs has some very good fishing for those willing to spend the time. Seven Pound Bay and the Cow Paddock have been producing good numbers of healthy fish.
• Echo - This lake over the last few weeks has been producing some good quality fish. Teal Bay and Large Bay have been popular with people fishing soft plastics amongst the submerged trees doing very well.

Saltwater

• Bream - The bream has not slowed this year and have been caught along most shores in the Derwent and Browns River.
• Flathead - Flathead have been fishing fairly well considering the time of year and weather conditions. Reports of good numbers of size fish and over have been reported. Marion Bay, Norfolk Bay and around Bruny Island have all been fairly reliable.
• Striped Trumpeter - With the closure of the season fast approaching now is the time to get a Stripey fix. The fishing has been good in the shallower areas from down South and all up the east coast. We now stock the popular Vexed Bottom Meat Jig which is proving to be very effective on the stripeys, perfect for a modern twist on bottom fishing.
• Tuna - The odd School Bluefin Tuna are still about around the mouth of Fortescue Bay and Hippolyte Rocks.
