A fleet of 40 boats competed for the Overy Staithe Regatta 'Crossley Holland Trophy' on Friday 22 August. This race, which is sailed on pursuit principles, is part of the club's annual regatta and it set the scene for an exciting few days ahead.
The fleet ranged from Toppers to a vintage International 14 with a good sprinkling of more local designs including Stiffkey Cockles and Twinkle Twelves.
Race Officers Bernard Clark and Will Worsley set a course which took the fleet to marks C, E, D and A on a two lap course. The race started from the club line on the sea wall and finished at the quay.
Whilst the Twinkle Twelves all came home at the front of the fleet it soon transpired that instead of rounding mark E they'd rounded mark G which put them out of the running for the trophy.
This gave the race to Pete Turner (OK), with Alex Scoles (Europe) second and Spike Turner (OK) third. Alex Smith and Paul Beachell were 4th and first double handed boat in their Sharpie. Sam Worsley (Laser Radial) was first Junior in 14th place.
