Another fantastic fish aggregation devices (FADs) season has been enjoyed by fishers with fantastic catches of mahi mahi (dolphinfish) reported along the entire NSW coastline!
With the onset of winter kicking in and the East Australian Current beginning to retreat to the north, all FADs will be removed for annual winter maintenance before the end of June. FAD retrievals have commenced with all FADs between Port Stephens and Eden now removed. But rest assured, they will be returned to their locations from September on the Far North Coast to November on the Far South Coast in preparation for next season.
Make sure to check the Fishsmart app or DPI Fisheries website to see if your local FAD is still on location before enjoying a day on the water. The status of FADs will be updated as they are retrieved.
The FADs program is another great example of your recreational fishing licence fee at work!
