These are exciting times in the Boating Industry. Simultaneously both market segments, power and sail, are going through major transitions as technology developments march on.

On the power front Group Beneteau unveils its first motor foiler. After developing the Figaro Beneteau 3, the first production foiling sailing yacht, Groupe Beneteau has launched a new innovation, unveiling its concept foiling motor yacht. Created through collaborative work, this unique prototype is opening up a new age of boating. It took just nine months for the teams from Groupe Beneteau, working closely with the best partners in France, to conceive, design, develop and build this next-generation flying boat.

Simultaneously the power market is further developing outboard technology and maximising the weight savings and servicing logistics in areas that have traditionally been the domain on inboard engines. At the launch of the Miami International Boat Show, Mercury Marine introduced a new suite of technological solutions for controlling five- and six-engine arrays of outboard boat engines. The announcement further reinforces Mercury's leadership position in making boat operation more intuitive and enjoyable. With a growing segment of the recreational boating market shifting toward larger vessels powered by multiple large-horsepower outboards, Mercury is providing not only high performance and durable engines but also state-of-the-art solutions to enhance boaters' experiences.

Not to be left behind, the sailing industry continues its involvement with foiling and recently Mothquito was present at the ceremony of the Foiling Awards 2018 - held last Monday 11th in Milan at the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo Da Vinci - as a nominee for the awards for the best design 2018. A recognition of the highest prestige that has placed Mothquito among the best designs in the world of foiling and that is given by its radical and innovative design, and by its innovative system of foils, the IFS System, developed and patented by the company itself. The prize went to the AC75, the flying monocoque for the next edition of the America's Cup that shares with the Mothquito its pursuit for the increase of dynamic sleeve in favour of a greater stability and benefits thanks to the increase of the righting moment of the boat in flight.

Industry events happening in the foreseeable future includes The Marinas19 International Conference and Trade Exhibition (27-28 May 2019) and the program has been finalised. Marina Industries Association (MIA) Chairman Andrew Chapman was on the Gold Coast this week checking that all was is in order for what he believes will be a record event in terms of delegate numbers and participant satisfaction. Andrew said, "the Marinas19 venue at Sea World Resort on the Gold Coast with its on-site accommodation is close to all the Gold Coast attractions and we are set for an excellent event."

Around the same time Asmex will take place. As the flagship marine and superyacht conference event in Australia for the last eight years and positioned alongside the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, this year, ASMEX 2019 (20-21 May 2019) is front and centre of a fully-loaded 13-day 'marine week' with dedicated superyacht and marina related events scheduled on either side of the conference and boat show. For those out of town delegates and also locals in the marine industry, you cannot afford to miss the line-up of must-attend events. Find out more at www.asmex-conference.com.au

Queensland is also host to the Brisbane Boat Show, organised by the Boating Industry of Australia. The Association is again pleased to be delivering the next instalment of the Brisbane Boat Show in August. Efforts to rejuvenate the event over recent years have been successful with attendance reaching 18,226 last year. A great city centre location, excellent industry displays and a host of education and entertainment offerings. Boating is part of Queensland's DNA and the Brisbane Boat Show is the Premier Boating Event for the region. Please read through the Invitation to Exhibit to learn more about what the show can offer.
