Australia's leading outdoor adventure retailer, Anaconda, has signed as a major partner for the Sydney Boat Show, marking a strong collaboration between two champions of the great outdoors and further elevating the overall show experience for visitors.
With 88 stores nationwide and the country's largest range of gear for fishing, marine, hiking, camping, 4WDing and outdoor adventure, Anaconda is set to deliver a major presence at the event in August.
VRFish, the peak body for recreational fishing in Victoria, has celebrated its 30th anniversary by awarding eight lifetime achievement awards to volunteers for their highly regarded service to recreational fishing in Victoria. VRFish Chair, Rob Loats, said "The highlight of celebrating our anniversary was recognising volunteers who have dedicated years to making fishing better." The VRFish Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honour which can be bestowed by the peak body for longstanding and valued service.
Two long-standing Marine Rescue Coffs Harbour volunteers, Andrew Cox and Mark Halling, were honoured for their distinguished service. Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell presented the pair with their 20-Year Long Service Medals, recognising their dedication since joining the unit in the 2000s. Both men have risen through the ranks to become experienced Coxswains (vessel skippers) and Watch Officers.
The BIA hosted a successful all-day meeting of a national Jobs & Skills Council Strategic Workforce Advisory Panel at Coomera Marine Precinct. It was a first for the advisory group and a valuable opportunity for 22 attendees from across the nation to experience and appreciate the scale and value of the marine industry, especially when it comes to jobs like boat building, shipwrights, trimmers and mechanical technicians.

The NZ Marina Industry is reaching out on behalf of MAST Academy for help to improve training for people working in marinas and boatyards across New Zealand. Right now, they have a qualification called the "New Zealand Certificate in Marina Facilities (Level 4)" that covers both marina operations and boatyard operations. However, they've heard from industry that it could be better structured to meet the real training and skill needs of workers and employers. MAST is working with NZMOA, & Hanga Aro Rau (the Workforce Development Council - WDC) to bring forward this review to enable more fit-for-purpose and future-proofed qualifications.
