GP Watercraft Spring Update

As the European sailing season gets fully under way, it's already been a busy and exciting start to the year for the team at GP Watercraft and the athletes we support across the international circuit.

The season began with the Grand Prix in Vilamoura, Portugal, a key pre-season regatta that provided an important early benchmark for many sailors preparing for the year ahead. Competitors faced extremely light and unstable conditions throughout the event, creating a challenging week where patience, positioning, and decision-making became critical. Congratulations go to all of the athletes who competed, including AP, Matteo, Molly, Florencia, and Finn, who all gained valuable racing experience in a highly competitive fleet.

Back in the UK, the ILCA UK National Open events have also been under way. Matteo secured victory at the opening event, while AP delivered a strong performance to finish as third female overall. The first two events took place at Warsash and Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, both providing very different conditions and valuable opportunities for sailors to test themselves early in the season.

Attention then shifted to the internationally renowned Princess Sofia Regatta in Palma de Mallorca, one of the biggest and most competitive events on the Olympic classes calendar. AP produced her best qualifying performance to date, entering the finals series in second overall before ultimately finishing an impressive 32nd from a fleet of 144 sailors. The event also featured strong performances from other GP-supported athletes and ambassadors including Matteo (ITA), Finn (GBR), Molly (GBR), and Julia (GER), with Julia achieving an outstanding sixth place overall in her fleet.

Away from the racecourse, it has also been an incredibly busy period for the GP Watercraft Team. Following a successful appearance at the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show, the company officially launched its expanded Nautivela range, including the 420, Optimist, and ILCA ranges, continuing to strengthen its support for youth and performance sailing programmes across the UK.

The business has also been working closely with Zhik following a successful Dinghy Show, continuing to build its retail and partnership operations while supporting sailors with technical apparel and performance equipment throughout the season.

Alongside this, GP Watercraft has been involved in a number of exciting Melges and RYA-related projects, helping supply boats to aspiring and current RYA instructors as part of wider development initiatives designed to support participation and coaching pathways within the sport.

This past weekend, GP Watercraft were proud to have sponsored the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Optimist Open. It was great to see so many talented sailors on the water, competing across a wide wind range over the two days. Congratulations to all who took part and our prize winners!

With spring now turning into summer, preparations are ramping up across all areas of the business. From coaching and athlete support to boat sales, events, and development projects, there is plenty happening behind the scenes and there are some exciting announcements and projects coming as we approach summer.
