Dangerous fishing Sydney and South this weekend

There are strong to gale force southeasterly winds over the NSW coast in the wake of a trough and low moving off the south coast. The trough and low will then track north. Then, a high will move into the south Tasman Sea, maintaining fresh to strong southeasterly winds over coastal waters.

For Friday 16 Jan, BOM is warning of large and powerful surf conditions hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing for Sydney and all southern coasts. Seas will be around 3 to 4 metres, swells will be 2.5 to 4 metres. Swell directions are mixed: southerly, easterly, north easterly.

For Sunday 18 Jan, BOM is warning of large and powerful surf conditions hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing for Sydney and all southern coasts. Seas will be around 1.5 to 3 metres, swells will be 3 to 4 metres. Swell direction: easterly.

Swell period will be very short: around 8 to 10 seconds.
