Minister's decision on rock lobster fisheries sustainability measures to help address urchin barrens

Following consultation, the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries has made decisions on sustainability measures for the:

  • Northland spiny rock lobster fishery (CRA 1),
  • part of the Hauraki Gulf/Bay of Plenty spiny rock lobster fishery (CRA 2), and
  • the national packhorse rock lobster fishery (PHC 1).

These decisions include area closures for spiny rock lobster fishing and new recreational daily limits for packhorse and spiny rock lobster.
