Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers in Townsville recently completed a 4-week operation focused on crab pot interference, sending a clear message ahead of the busy holiday season.
The operation resulted in 24 Fisheries Infringement Notices (FINs) being issued, totalling more than $35,000 in fines. Officers also removed more than 100 unmarked crab pots that were not marked with the details of the user.
Interfering with another person's fishing gear is against the law at all times of the year, and officers will continue to take action against anyone doing the wrong thing.
Brush up on recreational fishing rules in Queensland to avoid accidentally breaking the law these holidays.
