With the highly anticipated Noble Marine RS600 National Championship around the corner at Mount's Bay Sailing Club, let's have a look at this year's runners and riders!
At the time of writing, 27 boats are entered making this one of the biggest RS600 events in recent years so there's plenty of competition.
- Jamie Mawson: Won the 2024 Nationals at Eastbourne with a race to spare after a few years as runner up. Will he be able to translate the small shifty flat water Notts County practice into wavy Mounts Bay?
- Will Russell: Has spent a lot of time in the boat this year as well as getting fitter. With a couple event wins under his belt, can he translate this in the big fleet?
- George Smith: Multiple National Champion and current Inland champion. Hasn't spent as much time in the boat this summer, but can some new fancy grip tape and polish make him go fast?
- Richard Smith: Really fast when going in the right direction. Hopefully he remembers where the marks are after taking the scenic route around at Stone earlier this year.
- Richard Bone: Showed us that he can be quick at Eastbourne last year... Can he take it further and get onto the podium this year?
- Matt Banbrook: Showed us at Garda and the Inlands that he knows how to go fast. However, every time I look he's sailing something new. Plenty of time in boats but can he put that together at Mounts Bay?
This is definitely going to be one of the closest championships in recent years. There's plenty of other sailors to keep an eye on, especially loads of new faces to the fleet.
With such a large fleet, we'll have the usual split of gold, silver and bronze fleet racing too, so there's something for everyone. And if this is your first RS600 Nationals, there will be plenty of people to help you get the most out of it. Mount's Bay Sailing Club are excited to welcome us next week, fingers crossed the weather is on our side!
