A cold front and low pressure system is moving eastwards Wednesday, crossing the Illawarra coast before moving offshore Thursday.
Strong to gale-force winds and large powerful waves are expected to develop Wednesday night and Thursday. Southerly winds and waves will gradually ease from Friday through the weekend as a high drifts across the state.

For Thursday, BOM is warning of large and powerful surf conditions hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing from Macquarie down to Batemans. Seas will be around 4 metres, swells will 3 to 4 metres on all coasts except 2.5 metres on Batemans coast. Swell directions are southerly, mixed with a bit of easterly on southern waters.
For Friday, BOM is warning of large and powerful surf conditions expected to be hazardous for crossing bars by boat and rock fishing for the Macquarie, Hunter and Sydney coasts. There will be 2.5 to 3 metre seas plus 4 metre swells. Swell directions will be mostly south and south easterly but with an added northerly swell on Macquarie coast.
