The seventh regatta of the 2025 EurILCA Europa Cup Trophy kicked off yesterday in Warnemünde, Germany, with the first two races. A total of 302 sailors from 32 countries are competing in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and ILCA 7 classes.

The weather, unlike the previous day’s forecast, was overcast with a few raindrops, but the wind was steady and reliable.

ulian Hoffmann GER, the best German sailor at the last ILCA 7 World Championships in Qingdao, took victory in both races yesterday, ending the day with a perfect score. "The conditions were great – 14 to 18 knots of wind, slightly offshore. The key was to get a good start and quickly head in the right direction. I managed that twice, and my speed was just right. I’m happy with the day," he said, relaxed after securing two wins. Other sailors struggled more with the turns, but Hoffmann handled them perfectly.

This also signals that the dip in performance over the past few weeks has been overcome. After the World Championships, the 22-year-old had to call in sick and was unable to achieve strong results at the YES Regatta and Kiel Week. "That’s why it was important to have a solid day now and hopefully continue with three more good days leading into preparation for the European Championships in Marstrand, Sweden, in August – our second highlight of the season."

Following Hoffmann in second place is his long-time national rival and training partner Ole Schweckendiek GER. The Kiel native is currently suffering from a severe cold and has also struggled with the shifting wind. Poland’s Michal Krasodomski POL completes the provisional podium in third place. A total of 74 sailors are competing in the ILCA 7 class.

In the ILCA 6 class, the largest fleet with 142 boats, the overall lead is held by women’s leader Anna Munch DEN, who won both of her races today. She’s closely followed by men’s leader Ali Poyraz Özdemir TUR and second-place finisher Levian Büscher GER, who are only one and two points behind, respectively.

I’m looking forward to gaining more experience here. Since we’re sailing in a mixed fleet with the Olympic women, we get to compete with big names like Anna Munch from Denmark. I hope to meet her in the finals – Levian Büscher

"It wasn’t easy today. We had a few wind shifts with the showers," said the 16-year-old Levian Büscher. A win and a third-place finish put him in third overall. "I’m looking forward to gaining more experience here. Since we’re sailing in a mixed fleet with the Olympic women, we get to compete with big names like Anna Munch from Denmark. I hope to meet her in the finals." Büscher’s focus for the remainder of the season is on qualifying for the Youth Worlds in Vilamoura, Portugal, with the German Championships and Youth Championships.

In the ILCA 4 class, the 86-boat fleet is led by Csanád Arnos Török HUN, followed by Flint Decroo BEL and Robert Kesküla EST. Cassandra Jansch GER leads the ILCA 4 Girls’ division, ranking fifth overall.

Two new races are scheduled for today. The championships will run until Tuesday, 8th.
