Major milestone for the Baltic 68 Café Racer fleet

by Baltic Yachts 3 Jul 16:38 UTC 25-28 June 2025

This year's edition of The Superyacht Cup Palma, from 25 to 28 June, was not just a storming success for Thomas Bscher's Baltic 68 Café Racer Open Season, which dominated all three days in Class B, winning every race.

More than that, the regatta was a major milestone for the growing Café Racer fleet with all four boats competing against each other for the first time

Two days prior to the regatta the fleet were invited to meet out in the bay of Palma to enjoy some sailing in company providing an opportunity to capture the boats together on film for the first time. This was followed by a relaxed family dockside BBQ ashore with the boats moored together in Club de Mar.

The Superyacht Cup delivered a relaxed, enjoyable and highly competitive experience with solid sailing conditions, a good breeze in the Bay of Palma and a programme of lively aprés-sail events ashore. The Café Racer fleet added their own unique energy to the event with their striking design, distinctive attitude, sparkling performance and great spirit.

All four Café Racers performed well and the next time these boats meet again on the same racecourse, Open Season is likely to face very strong competition in this closely matched fleet.

Just delivered to Palma from the Baltic Yachts factory in Finland, hull #4 Scorpione Hormar made her racing début and demonstrated her potential from the off.

'It was a fantastic week with some spectacular sailing,' says Baltic Yachts' EVP Henry Hawkins. 'Seeing the Café Racer fleet together for the first time was both impressive and, to be honest, a little emotional for many including naval architect Javier Jaudenes.

'The Superyacht Cup Palma is an excellent showcase for the Café Racer fleet and it generated strong interest in these spectacular boats. We are excited at the prospect of growing the fleet with more like minded owners.'

'Club de Mar is a wonderful venue and the prospect of returning next year for the 30th anniversary of The Superyacht Cup is exciting,' Hawkins says. 'True to their name, the Café Racers also hosted breakfast coffee for other teams and spectators on the first and last mornings of this four-day regatta.'

'It was such a wonderful addition to the fleet to have the four Café Racers joining us,' says Kate Branagh, event director of The Superyacht Cup Palma. 'They added a super competitive class and I very much hope they will continue to grow their fleet and come back to join us next year.'

"The Baltic 68 Café Racer has a double life," said Javier Jaudenes as he summed up the event. "This week, we've seen its performance side on the racecourse; next week, it transforms into a comfortable daysailer for the owners to enjoy on holiday."

For the pure joy of sailing

The Café Racer is a fresh new concept in yachting, optimised for simple ownership and stress-free sailing with friends. A next-generation daysailer and weekender, you can choose to operate her with or without a professional crew. She offers exceptional performance and handling, luxury living spaces and a huge amount of fun with the best possible experience at the helm.

Her sophisticated yet simple design puts equal emphasis on sailing for pure escapism and on racing, both in major regattas and within her own class. With all-electric propulsion and systems, she is silent and easy to operate under power or sail, and can generate electricity to charge her batteries both at anchor and under way. Just unplug her from the dock, set sail and enjoy. Find out more here.
