Corio Bay
Tough conditions have certainly made it difficult for anglers to sneak out for a fish. The outer harbour offered a tasty mixed bag to anglers with whiting, flathead and calamari all holding in great numbers. Some fishos have been finding all 3 species holding in the same area and able to target them on the same anchor!
Ideally anchored for whiting and drifting for the squid and flathead. The 4-6 metre zone is proving to be ideal for the whiting and flathead and 2-4 metres for the calamari. Natural coloured jigs have been the pic of colours as of late.
Bellarine Peninsula
St Leonards remains a standout location again this week for King George whiting with anglers still getting amongst great numbers of fish. The area known as Bourke Street again remains the pic of locations to fish however they do seem to be well spread out across the area.
Offshore
Offshore has still got some great fishing on offer (when weather has permitted) for Kings, mako sharks and tuna. Kings are still lurking in close off Point Lonsdale and out of the wrecks in a bit deeper. Livebaits, poppers and jigs have all been accounting for plenty of fish. Tuna are still in good numbers right across the coast just cruising on the surface. Anglers showing persistence have been finding success with poppers and stick baits worked slowly on top of their heads. Makos have still been hanging around out deeper to those putting out a solid burley trail with plenty of sharks coming up for a sniff. Makos have been around the 50kg mark with plenty of bottom fish action to keep you amused until they come about.
Barwon River
The Barwon River has been offering some great local fishing this week with Estuary Perch and Redfin on the chew. Small soft plastics have been working very well with the aid of a Jigspinner for extra vibration and flash in the water. The jig spinner offers a bigger profile appealing to larger fish such as Bass and Yellowbelly
Goulburn River
The Goulburn River in Shepparton is almost back to a steady level after the recent flush of water. This week we have been getting customers chasing high vibration lures as these have been working best in the dirty water. Big singled bladed Spinnerbaits such as the old mates or twin bladed Bassman Codman a have been doing the damage for those casting Spinnerbaits this week. Tn70 jackals have also been a great option with darker colours working best. Those Bait fishing have reported some nice numbers of cod in the dirty water mostly caught on chicken and cheese. Out towards Moira park we have had a couple of reports that Yellowbelly are being caught on shrimp and yabbies. As the weather cools down the fishing usually does on the Goulburn but for the next 4 weeks it should fish pretty good.
Kialla Lakes
The water levels are at a great spot for those who are chasing Yellowbelly and redfin at Kialla. The edge bite is running hot with one report of 6 yellowbelly being caught in an hour period before sun set. Again, small divers, jerkbaits and 2inch soft plastics have been working best in the shallows. If you're casting out deeper tn50 or 60s in peacock colour have worked well on a super slow retrieve. We had a catfish reported this week on bait with worms being the bait of choice for that capture along with some Yellowbelly being caught in the trees on small yabbies and worms.
Lake Nillahcootie
it has been a bumper couple of weeks at Nillahcootie with a heap of Yellowbelly being caught. Those trolling small codgers and old mates have been picking up yellowbelly throughout the lake but most of the fish have been caught off structure. Getting your small yabbies or worms next to snags has been the key with 10 yellowbelly in a session not uncommon. Those lure fishing have been slow rolling black gulps around the timber and also dragging football jigs up and over the timber and also around rocky banks.
Shepparton Lakes
The lake is not starting to fish well as the temperatures have dropped. Redfin are very active at the moment especially in the evening with some 30+ cm Redfin reported this week mostly on small soft plastics rigged on a light weedless hook or on a small bent minnows run just under the surface. Bait fisherman have reported that both silver perch and Redfin are on the bite near the grass hill and also near the main boat ramp.
