Our researchers at Bribie Island Research Centre have over a million reasons to celebrate with their recent trial production of quampie oysters resulting in 1.6 million farm ready spat.
This first production of quampie exceeded expectations, and the babies are now just over 2 months post-settlement with the first of the spat moved from the hatchery to farm-based trials.
The production of quampie oysters is part of a larger project to partner with First Nations oyster farmers in Moreton Bay to explore the potential for developing an industry based on this culturally significant species.
