Vendee Globe have confirmed that at 2327hrs UTC on Dec 23 that Yoann Richomme was the first Vendee Globe competitor to round Cape Horn.

Yoann Richomme passed the last of the three major Capes of solo non-stop - race around the world, the infamous Cape Horn, in the lead of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe. He was followed 9min 30sec later by Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance), after completing 17,500nm of racing.

Richomme, the 41 year old French skipper of the IMOCA Paprec Arkéa smashed Armel Le Cleac'h's previous record time, which was set on the 2016 Vendée Globe (47d 00h 34min 46s) and also sets a new reference time between Les Sables d'Olonne and Cape Horn: 43d 11h 25min 20s.

That's 3d 13h 9min and 26s less than Armel's record.

At the same time, he established a new record for the Cape Leeuwin – Cape Horn sector at 13d 09h 13min 43s.

Using Predictwind to calculate the route to finish it is calculated that Richomme or Dalin or third placed Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) will take a week off the current race record time - that includes a very torturous path through the Atlantic and Doldrums.

More updates to follow.

Meanwhile, Pip Hare who dismasted a week ago in the Southern Ocean continues to make her way to Australia under a Jury Rig. She is now making about 100nm a day, on a good day.

She updates below, the full suite of her videos can be found here www.youtube.com/@PipHareOceanRacing/videos:

Conrad Colman (NZL) lying in 29th in the now 36 boat fleet is about 1,000nm behind the first daggerboard boat, race veteran Jean Le Cam. Conrad updates below. the full suite of his videos (which are excellent) can be found here www.youtube.com/@colmanoceanracing/videos:
