Second placed skipper, Youann Richomme is about to take the lead as the racers pass New Zealand. At the latest sked (0200hrs) UTC current leader, Charlie Dalin was separated by just 4nm from Youann Richomme.
Richomme has been chasing Dalin through the Southern Ocean after they both took quite different strategic options in response to a major Low pressure cell hit the front runners.
Third placed racer Sebastien Simon is just 73.5nm behind the race leaders. Currently the lead boats are trundling along the Ice Gate, set to pass south of Point Nemo, and then onto Cape Horn, where they are expected to round before Christmas Day.
