ABP Cadet UK National Championship 2024 in Plymouth - The Ex-Cadets Race

by Magnus Smith 3 Aug 2024 20:09 UTC 2 August 2024

More evidence that you don't have to leave the Cadet class for good! Sailors aged 18 to 60 could not resist the lure of the class. 25 entries made the start line in Plymouth, after the ABP Cadet UK Nationals had finished (and just before the Worlds opening ceremony). Each had sailed in Cadets when under 18, and now wanted a piece of the action, again.

Some were taking it seriously, some were just delighted to wallow in nostalgia, but all of them had a serious workout in F4-5 winds and plenty of chop. In a suspicious twist, one of the main organisers of the Nationals/Worlds won the race. Was it a fix? Or does he just have more National titles under his belt than the others?

No matter, everyone had huge smiles.

Overall Results: (blanks appear as some helms did not indicate borrowed boat)

Being surrounded by hills and mountains has the inevitable effect So far the conditions on Lake Lipno have provided for excellent and challenging sailing, however being surrounded by hills and mountains can mean that the winds are shifty and can be light at time, and this proved to be the case on day 3.
