Dangerous conditions are expected on Saturday 18 May on the Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra coasts.
A cold front over the Southern Ocean is expected to bring a strong southerly change to southeast Australia Friday. It is expected to reach the far north coast of NSW by Saturday afternoon and a trough of low pressure is forecast to develop over the Tasman Sea. The southerly airstream between the high and the trough over the Tasman is expected to be maintained through to next week.
Where
On Saturday on the Hunter coast there will be seas of 1 metre and southerly swells of about 1 metre.
On Saturday on the Sydney coast there will be seas of 3 metres and southerly swells of about 4 metres.
On Saturday on the Illawarra coast there will be seas of 4 metres and southerly swells of about 3 metres.
BOM is warning that on all these waters surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Swell period will be around 10 seconds.
