Entries open for Poole Week 2024

by David Harding 3 Apr 14:43 UTC 25-30 August 2024

In August, Poole Harbour will once again come alive with dinghies and small keelboats for one of the south coast's biggest and most well-established regattas: it's the 76th Poole Week.

Sponsored by Bournemouth Digital and run by Parkstone Yacht Club, Poole Week offers friendly, competitive racing, on-the-water coaching for all classes, great prizes and legendary social events, not to mention subsidised beer throughout the week.

Class starts are expected for Darts, Wayfarers, RS200s, Flying Fifteens, ILCA 6s and 7s, XODs, Dolphins and Cornish Shrimpers. They're also provided for other classes that enter in sufficient numbers and, for anyone else, there will be a handicap fleet - or two, depending on entries.

Racing in Poole Week takes place in the afternoons, leaving the mornings free for other activities in and around Poole. Once back ashore after racing, it's always worth making sure you're in the clubhouse for the daily prize-giving, because it includes a random draw that can make anyone a winner. Then there's the de-brief with video footage from the coach for the class or classes of the day. After that, for many people there's no better way to round off the evening than to enjoy a drink and a meal on the terrace with a stunning view over Poole Harbour.

With its great mix of sailing and socialising, it's no surprise that Poole Week has become a firm fixture in the calendar for so many. And with early-bird discounts until 31st May, now is a good time to get your entry in to make sure you join in the fun.
