The 31st edition of the annual ARAMEX Dubai to Muscat Sailing Race (Aramex D2M) featuring 20 teams kicked off at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) on Saturday with great excitement in the presence of dignitaries, participants, and other sailing enthusiasts. This year's race stands out for its notable level of female involvement, exemplified by the participation of three female skippers and two female-only crews, highlighting the growing diversity and inclusivity in sailing. The female-only crew is also among the six teams participating double-handed for this edition.
Returning for my third Dubai to Muscat race as the skipper of Songbird, I'm thrilled by the support from DOSC, especially through their Women On Water initiative. Seeing three all-female teams in this race, following the first one in the 30th edition, makes me proud," commented Betty Camacho. "I'm excited and a bit nervous as we prepare to start. The current status of women in sailing is incredible. I hope to see even more female skippers in the future; maybe five in the 32nd edition," she added.
Additionally, this year's race features the oldest skipper, Fawzi Sultan, who will be competing in his J122 'El Seraya' with the ambition of claiming the top spot. The 80-year-old skipper narrowly missed the victory last year, finishing in second place by just 6 minutes.
The Aramex D2M, managed by DOSC in partnership with Oman Sail, has attracted talented sailors from around the world to compete in one of the region's most challenging keelboat races. Starting from Jumeirah, Dubai, sailors race to the finish line in Marina Bandar Al Rowdha, an event partner, in Muscat, Oman. They face a difficult journey through the Strait of Hormuz and across the Gulf of Oman.
"The 31st edition of the Aramex Dubai to Muscat Race presents a fantastic opportunity for sailing enthusiasts to push their skills and explore their limits. This annual event is a thrilling time for DOSC and the region's sailing community. We are eager to witness a showcase of sailing talent, from the start to the finish," said David Worrall, the D2M Race Director. "We wish all participants a safe journey and look forward to celebrating together at the finish line!"
