Covering nearly 100 nautical miles, this voyage presented an excellent opportunity to put the vessel to the test and experience its capabilities firsthand.
Seamless Journey from Mana Marina to Motueka
Setting off from Mana Marina, just north of Wellington, the Axopar 37 proved to be the perfect offshore companion, maintaining an impressive average speed of 25 knots throughout the four-hour driving time to Motueka. Despite encountering a substantial swell, the vessel showcased its stability and performance, leaving both Rubbo and the new owner thoroughly impressed.
Fishing Stops and Unforgettable Moments
The six-hour total journey time included three fishing stops, each contributing to the adventure. The first stop, just north of Cape Jackson Lighthouse, offered an opportunity to fish for Groper. While the catch may not have been Groper, the journey continued towards French Pass. A detour, prompted by a captivating boil-up, added an element of excitement as they tried their luck for 20 minutes, resulting in a hooked Kahawai.
Challenges and Triumphs: Conquering French Pass
One of the highlights was navigating through French Pass, a narrow gap between D'Urville Island and the South Island, known for its strong tidal currents and unpredictable eddies. Despite the challenges, the Axopar 37 handled the conditions with finesse. The trip included unsuccessful attempts at jigging for Kingies but showcased the boat's adaptability and maneuverability.

As the sun began to set, they reached Motueka, concluding an adventure filled with challenges and triumphs. The Axopar 37 was parked in its new home berth at Port Motueka, leaving everyone on board impressed with its performance under varied conditions.
