Sandy attended La Habra High School, graduating in 1961. He then went on to pursue higher education at UCLA.

Throughout his career, Sandy was involved in various ventures. He dedicated his time and efforts to the Andrew M. Martin Company, Martin West Yachts, and Western Pacific Packaging. Sandy's dedication and hard work were evident in his professional accomplishments.

Sailing was not just a hobby for Sandy; it was a way of life. He had a deep passion for the sport and was highly involved in the sailing community.

One of Sandy's boats was the Peterson 48 BRISA, built locally by Dennis Choate and an entry in the 1981 Transpac. This design had many sisterships that included ANNABELLE LEE, AMANTE, PLAN B and several others on the IOR racing circuits of the 1980's.

Sandy also served the sport as Commodore of the Los Angeles Yacht Club in 1993 and the Transpacific Yacht Club in 2001. His love for sailing extended beyond just racing sailboats; it was a source of joy and fulfillment for him.

In addition to sailing, Sandy enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved skiing, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. These activities allowed him to connect with nature and find solace in the great outdoors.

A ceremony to celebrate Sandy's life will be held at a later date. The details of the services will be announced by the family.
