In this week's fishing report we cover off bream, blues, cals plus many more. Also trout are on the move in the Lower Derwent and we feature a fishing film festival.
Calamari - a few calamari throughout the channel but generally pretty patchy with better fish being caught up the east coast.
Mackerel - large numbers of good size mackerel have been caught in the Derwent lately with bait or small metal lures working well
Mullet - lots of large mullet in the Derwent estuary at the moment, good burley and small baits working well.
Sea run trout - sea runners have been firing lately with most anglers finding fish. Small bibbed minnows like Daiwa Pressos or Luckycraft flash minnows are working very well fishing around the shallow margins on high tide. A few anglers are doing well deep trolling with Double Clutch Lures on low tide targeting the edges of channels.
Bream - are going very well in the Derwent and Huon systems, large numbers of good-sized fish are being caught with the Bream seemingly schooled up in large numbers at the moment. Panish 70sp seems to be the popular lure of choice.
Striped Trumpeter - now is the perfect time to get out and target striped trumpeter on some of the inshore reefs. Bigger fish have been reported in closer to shore in 50-70m. Vexed Bottom meat jigs have been very effective as well as traditional paternoster rigs with fresh squid.
Craigbourne Dam - good numbers of brown and rainbow trout are being caught with most methods working well. Powerbait dough is the favoured choice for catching the rainbow trout while people spinning lures and flicking small wet flies are doing well on the brown trout.
We would love to hear your reports and see photos of your catches to help fellow anglers. Please email or send them to our Facebook/Instagram Page.
