Sand Flathead Open Forum
NOTICE: event postponed.
After this weeks technical difficulties, we have decided to postpone and reschedule our open (online) forum about Flathead stocks and the future of Southern Sand Flathead. It will now be held on Tuesday 21 March at 7pm.
This open forum will be the first of a series, we will have Sean Tracey joining us to answer all your questions about the science and research behind the recent announcement that Southern Sand Flathead has been rated depleted.
What question(s) do you have around the science/research behind the depleted status of Southern Sand Flathead? Let us know by sending us an email at , or by submitting your question(s) here.
We would also like to hear:
a) If your flathead fishing experience has changed, and if so, how it has changed and in which area(s) of the State?
b) What do you view as the cause(s) of biomass declines?
You can find the streaming link for the forum here.
We hope to see you there!
IMAS Sand Flathead survey
If you're a recreational fisher who has fished for Sand Flathead in the past, or you intend to fish for it in the future, we're inviting you to participate in this special survey to help our most popular fish species.
IMAS wants to learn more about the diversity of experiences and attitudes of recreational fishers, with a particular focus on Sand Flathead.
The survey takes about 20 mins to complete, but your input is invaluable to assist the development of a management strategy to recover the fishery to a sustainable level while considering the wide and varying thoughts and values of the recreational fishing sector around Tasmania.
Whether you fish once or year or every weekend, your responses are important to ensure that all different kinds of fishers are represented.

The survey will close at 5pm on the 6th April 2023.
This research is funded by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tasmania) through its Flathead for the Future funding.
Please note, however this is not formal consultation for the upcoming Scalefish review to be conducted by NRE Tasmania.
