ILCA Thames Valley Traveller Series at Wembley Sailing Club

by Julian Bradley 7 Sep 2022 16:41 UTC 4 September 2022

A Notorious, Psycho, force 2-4 southerly blew across the Welsh Harp (with a suspicion of North by North West). Constant kicker adjustment was the order of the day, with more than one rope needing adjustment - or else, Without a Shadow of a Doubt, the lifeboat was likely to be in a frenzy. 33 competitors took to the water.

Race 1 was stolen by Colin Carver from John Curran and Duncan Salmon (his Laser being easier to tack than the 39 Steps of his Merlin Rocket). But, set a thief To Catch a Thief, and race 2 saw a reversal in positions, Curran viewing the fleet through his Rear Window. This left us with a 3rd race play-off.

I Confess I was Spellbound for races 1 and 2. Turns out the Man Who Knew Too Much was in fact The Wrong Man. But I engaged brain enough to get off the line and get away for race 3. I could see Colin behind me in second, but it was JC who came in 4th to win on countback. Emily Shears did her version of The Lady Vanishes, winning the Laser Radial/ILCA 6 Class.

Proceedings overseen by RO John Shepherd with ARO Helen Cafferata and team, who managed course, schedule, wind direction and competitors with aplomb.
