Halfway through the series and DYS arrive at the picturesque venue of Trent Valley, with the sun shining and the prospect of some wind. The day got under way with two races back-to-back before lunch.
While parents watched from the grassy bank the sailors got to grips with sailing on the river. The wind kept them on their toes as it came and went throughout the day, but they all improved as the day progressed and enjoyed some close competition. Sam Clarke took the honours in the first race is his ILCA 4, with S. Baines winning the second race in her Topper, leaving everything to play for in the final race after lunch.
The third race was nearly postponed as the wind had dropped, but at the last minute ripples were seen coming round the bend in the river and everyone rushed to launch. The two leading contenders swapped places throughout the race and the intervention of one of the many narrow boats on the final lap added to the tension. In the end it was Sam Clarke who won the race to become the overall winner of the event and first Intermediate. S. Baines was second and J. Baines third (1st Junior boat). A. Baines was first Senior boat.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and all credit to the Terra Sports who persevered in the tricky conditions. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day with great camaraderie and friendly rivalry amongst all the sailors. DYS's next event will be their inaugural visit to Rudyard Lake Sailing Club on 16th July.
