Escape the law of the hammer

The law of the hammer, or "Maslow's hammer" as it is more commonly known contends, "If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail."

In fishing these days that quote might read: If the only tool you have is a flippin' rod, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were an 8-pound bass under a mat of vegetation. Not all fish are bass. Sadly, not all bass are 8-pounders. And not even all 8-pounders are under a mat. You get the picture. These are obvious statements, but not enough anglers consider the effect of their equipment on how they fish or for what they fish. Sometimes, hyper specialized equipment drives the approach more than it should and sells a vision of fishing in which the only way to advance is through specialization in species or technique.

There are many types of fishing, and there are many more anglers keen to sample all the flavors of fishing as skilled generalists rather than specialize. EC3.5 series spinning and casting rods are capable in species and technique specific applications, but they're a more maverick, versatile breed that allow anglers to remain flexible with less equipment.

Built for Midwest lakes where smallmouth, largemouth, walleye, musky, sauger, trout, pike, and panfish can be found on any given day, EC3.5 series rods and reels offer a counterpoint to overly specialized equipment in a still high-end series that offers anglers a premium alternative to specialization in gear or approach.

EC3.5 Series rods are packed with well thought out, versatile, and durable features like X5 blank construction and a proprietary nano-resin material to achieve customized tapers. This process and the materials used, make the blanks not only 50% stronger but 20% lighter than other graphite ensuring they are tough enough to target monsters but still sensitive enough to make a blue-gill bite fun. For ease of use regardless of species, Sea Guide XO HG tangle-free style guides ensure smooth line control, easy line management, and superior casting. Soft-touch reel seats, and a hybrid grip featuring Grade A cork with graphite or high-density EVA foam round out the performance features.

Recognizing, as Arnold Toynbee said in A Study of History, "No tool is omnicompetent," EC3.5 series rods are available in variations allowing a well-rounded angler to curate a smaller arsenal of rods up for anything freshwater has to offer.
