The scallop season is now open until 31 July 2022 and many divers have been out and about.
People do get into difficulty while diving, so please ensure compressors are serviced and in good working order and those who remain in the boat should have an understanding of what is required if there is an emergency.
Anyone diving with tanks must follow all the basic rules with depths and time under the water to avoid getting into trouble.
Remember, you do need a licence to take scallops and that the D'Entrecasteaux Channel remains closed.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (Sea Fishing and Aquaculture) has a useful link to ensure you are doing the right thing during the scallop season.
In addition, please spend some time watching the following video and listening to Professor David Smart discuss the dangers of Hookah Diving.
