Teams from Rutland Sailing Club and the Royal Hospital School claimed the 2021 Eric Twiname Team Racing Championship titles at Farmoor Reservoir over the weekend.

From a field of over 40 teams and 240 youth and junior sailors, Rutland Green claimed the Youth title with RHS Orange taking the junior.

Racing out of Oxford Sailing Club, the ET Team Racing Championships got off to a slow start on its return following the cancellation of last year's event with just four races completed on the Saturday due to a lack of wind.

Sunday however more than made up for the lack of action as the youth and junior teams managed over 200 races between them.

Racing in Firefly dinghies, Rutland Green, Rutland Orange, RGS Guildford and RHS Blue made the semi-final stage with Rutland Green and RGS Guildford coming out on top to set up the final match.

Winners Rutland Green proved too strong taking a 2-0 win in the final and with it the Turbo Service International Trophy. RHS Blue overcame Rutland Orange in the petit-final to claim third.

In the juniors, racing RS Fevas for the Sevenoaks Trophy, RHS Orange also claimed a 2-0 final win over opponents Frensham Fliers with third being taken by Burghfield Red who beat the other semi-finalists Rutland Red.

Niall McLeod, RYA Racing Services Manager, said: "It was so pleasing to see the return of Team Racing. It was frustrating for everyone not to race on the first day but it goes to show the skills sailing offers as the competitors took everything in their stride.

"I'd like to thank them for their patience and to all the staff and volunteers for their efforts in making the racing happen, and Sunday was the result of all that hard work with some brilliant action.

"Thanks again also goes out to Oxford Sailing Club and the Eric Twiname Trust. Quite simply this event wouldn't be a success without their continued support. And finally, congratulations to the winners and a big well done to all the sailors."

The regatta, named after famous sailor, author and journalist Eric Twiname, has seen many members of the current British Sailing Team compete in previous editions such as 470 sailors Eilidh McIntyre, Amy Seabright and Georgina Povall.

Entries are subsidised by the Eric Twiname Trust, which was set up in Twiname's name following his death in 1980.
