Having cancelled the 2020 event due to Covid, the 2021 Saturn Sails Largs Regatta Festival, organised jointly by Largs Sailing Club and Fairlie Yacht Club, was eagerly anticipated.

Despite some restrictions on social events, 101 yachts and dinghies competed over two days on courses around the buoys as well as the famous Round Cumbraes race. Sponsor Saturn Sails set the scene on the opening night with outdoor drinks under a Saturn Sails designed sun awning and provided generously at Sunday's outdoor prize-giving, as well doing mark laying out on the water.

With a forecast of almost zero wind and warm sunshine the reality brought sufficient breeze on both days, but a falling wind on Sunday meant shortened courses for all. The 59 dinghies were split into slow handicap, fast handicap and multihull classes and managed 2 races on Saturday and a full circuit of Great Cumbrae on Sunday.

Dinghy class winners:

  • Fast handicap Albacore (C Reid) Strathclyde Loch SC
  • Slow handicap Finn (R Steel) Keyhaven YC
  • Multihull Hurricane 5.9 Drookit (D and I Kent) Largs SC

In the keelboat classes 4 races were completed on Saturday and a part circumnavigation of Great Cumbrae mixed with some fixed marks.

Keelboat winners:

  • Class 3 Phoenix (Stephen Black) Clyde CC
  • Class 4 Farr E Nuff (John Kent) Largs SC
  • RC35 Animal (Kevin Aitken) Royal Northern and Clyde YC
  • Restricted sail Significant (Ian MacDonald) Clyde CC

Dinghy of the Weekend: Drookit (Ian and David Kent) Largs SC

Yacht of the Weekend: Farr E Nuff (John Kent) Largs SC

Huge thanks due to Saturn Sails and to sub sponsor Coastworks for the provision of Ribs.

See you all in 2022!
