0700 and it was picture postcard calm at the RHKYC. “Should have tried this yesterday,” said Mark Thornburrow. It's easy to be wise in hindsight!
Well, the rig needed a bit of tuning (did that), and then there was a bit of breeze, and everyone was there so why not go afloat. Wind forecasts were strictly variable from different sources and for different spots around the island. Just string together the good bits, miss out the flat parts, and hey presto!
At 09.08 there was enough breeze to start, so off they went… but it didn’t last long. A couple of long legs down the harbour, and then the wind had had enough even before Green Island. “If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth doing” said Mr Thornburrow. “Let’s go back for a late breakfast.”
The Cariad Team remains on standby, code orange. 22.00 call tonight, and an 06.00 confirmation tomorrow. Watch this space.
