2022 Foiling Week on Lake Garda - Preview

by Foiling Week 16 Jun 2022 11:52 UTC 30 June - 3 July 2022

From June 30 to July 3, Malcesine on Lake Garda will host the Foiling Week, the premier event for sailors, technicians, and sailing 3.0 enthusiasts from around the world.

  • On Garda in late June, the week of the flying boats
  • Foiling film festival, first edition
  • Forums and conferences with Terry Hutchinson, Clarisse Cremer, Dave Kalama, and Julia Mancuso
  • #Backthebid with World Sailing to bring Paralympic Sailing back to the Los Angeles Games

For the ninth time in Italy, doing the honors will be the Fraglia Vela Malcesine, a club that has in its DNA the creation of regattas of excellence and where Olympic classes have always been trained and boats destined to make sailing history are tested.

Big news 2022 is the first edition of the Foiling Film Festival, which will take place over two evenings at the Palazzo dei Capitani in Malcesine and will feature some of the best international Foiling-themed film productions in competition.

As a traditional proponent of historic social responsibility actions, this year Foiling Week supports #BacktheBid, the campaign to raise awareness for the reintroduction of sailing at the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics promoted globally by World Sailing (World Sailing Federation).

"Foiling Week 2022 is the first one as a Special Event and it is precisely within the framework of common goals with World Sailing that we decided to dedicate the event to the reinstatement of sailing among the paralympic disciplines. Foiling Week has a long history of collaborations and initiatives on this issue and we believe it is essential for the future of sailing that Paralympic sailors can compete at LA2028" Luca Rizzotti, President Foiling Week.

In 2021, World Sailing awarded Foiling Week the status of "Special Event," a recognition limited only to the following seven international events: America's Cup, The Ocean Race, SailGP, World Match Racing Tour, PWA World Tour, Star Sailors League, and GKA Kite World Tour. Special Event status ensures that World Sailing formally recognizes and ratifies all events organized by Foiling Week.

Foiling Week is committed to the goals set by the World Sailing Sustainability Agenda 2030 with a focus on environmental sustainability, gender equality, and social responsibility. Foiling Week collaborates with the Magenta Project in order to promote professional sailing opportunities for women and access to the World Sailing Trust, a fund that finances numerous initiatives aimed at increasing accessibility to sailing and promotes sustainable practices in the sport and boat manufacturing.
