Stokes Bay Sailing Club will be hosting the Unicorn 2020 National Championship on 4th - 6th September. It has been a very difficult year for all racing, but in late July, Stokes Bay Sailing Club started club racing with Covid-19 precautions and have seen great turnouts in all classes.
In mid-August, the club will host a 'pop-up' Moth open and then the Unicorn Nationals as scheduled in September. It is one of the few sailing events to take place this year and shows that it can be done but only with the support and dedication of the sailing committee and club members.
Stokes Bay is one of the best places in the UK to sail - in the central Solent, with easy launching and guaranteed great weather. The local Unicorn sailors Gary Piper and Will Stefanou have been practicing regularly at Stokes Bay since sailing was permitted in mid - May. Most of their training has been during weekdays. Dan Jarman will be one of the sailors at the front of the fleet and will be hard to beat in strong winds. Nearly 40 years ago, the Unicorn Nationals were at Stokes Bay and Dan's dad finished 2nd - will Dan go one better this time? Stokes Bay Sailing Club hope all Unicorn sailors will take part in this fantastic event soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a great 3 days Sailing; maybe arrive a bit early and see Ben Ainslie's Team Ineos training in the Solent as well!
The Unicorn Class is a friendly class and everyone is welcome to part in the Unicorn Nationals for the class to get together.
