This past weekend in Holland, MI the MISSA Cressy Singlehanded Qualifier was contested. The event was hosted by Macatawa Bay Yacht Club. The regatta is the district qualifier for The Cressy High School Singlehanded Championship sponsored by LaserPerformance and hosted by the Macatawa Yacht Club on October 26-28, 2018. Sailors register to compete in one of two fleets: Full-rig Laser or Laser Radial. The top four finishers in each fleet are offered a berth to Cressy Nationals.
Chicago Yacht Club led by Coach Matt Peter had five student athletes participate. "The kids went out and showed a level of consistency indicative to their progress. We are very excited to continue to sail as a CYC team and improve on a national scale." Coach Peter said. The Chicago Yacht Club sailed an excellent event led by Jack Baldwin, a Freshman at St. Ignatius High School, who won the Laser Radial division. Jack sailed seven very good races to best the other 45 competitors.
In the Laser Full division, both Owen Patterson from Walter Payton High School, 2nd place and Nic Chambers from Latin High School, 4th place advanced to the National Championship as well.
All of the coaching and sailing staff here at Chicago Yacht Club are very excited for these 3 young men.
