Rock Lobster
The recreational rock lobster season in the Western Region closes from Friday 31 August at midnight.
Striped Trumpeter
The striped trumpeter fishery closes for a two month period from this Saturday, 1 September to 31 October inclusive for recreational and commercial fishers. The closure protects fish during the spawning season.

East Coast and Huon shellfish warning
A Public Health Alert has been issued warning people not to eat recreationally collected wild shellfish from in and around Binalong Bay, Moulting and Georges Bay near St Helens, Great Oyster Bay, Mercury Passage on the East Coast or the Huon region in Southern Tasmania.

Abalone Fishery - Draft Harvest Strategy
Wild Fisheries DPIPWE has released a Draft Harvest Strategy for the Tasmanian Abalone Fishery.
The Strategy is a broad fisheries management policy that integrates the ecological, social and economic dimensions of fisheries management into a single framework. It provides a basis for setting size limits and the commercial total allowable catch. The Strategy does not contain any proposals to change the management of the recreational fishery.
Fishers and stakeholders including the Tasmanian Abalone Council and the Tasmanian Association for Recreational Fishers (TARFish) have been invited to comment on the Strategy. If recreational fishers wish to comment, please either pass your views on to TARFish or provide individual comments by following the link below.
