Bassenthwaite Sailing Club welcomed youth sailors from across the region for the One Design Open Meeting, with two great days of racing in some fantastic sailing conditions.

Saturday's shifty westerly kept everyone on their toes and proved to be a great warm-up for Sunday's more settled southerly breeze, which gave everyone a real blast around the course.

James Reekie was unstoppable in the Handicap fleet, winning every race to take the overall series.

Brother Andrew was just as dominant in the Tera Pro fleet, taking both the fleet win and the Tera Pro Northern Championship title.

Genevieve Denny from Ullswater SC sailed consistently to win the Tera Sport fleet and become Tera Sport Northern Champion.

Oscar and Rory Davenport dominated the Feva XL fleet, winning every race apart from one where they had an unfortunate trip to the wrong mark.

In the Optimist fleet, Sebastian Vials from Derwent Reservoir SC came out on top to claim the Optimist Northern Championship, finishing ahead of his younger siblings.

A special mention also goes to Lucy, Issy and Saskia, who completed every race despite the testing conditions - a brilliant achievement and one they should be really proud of.

Three on-the-water coaches were kept busy throughout the weekend, helping the sailors at the back of the fleet keep going, offering plenty of advice, encouragement and guidance.

It was great to see everyone sticking with it, improving as the weekend went on and enjoying some excellent racing.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thanks to all the volunteers, race team, coaches and parents who made another successful Bassenthwaite Open Meeting possible.

Lots photos and videos on the club Facebook group.
