The 2026 edition of the Comunitat Valenciana Youth Olympic Week officially kicked off at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV), one of the event's five host venues alongside RCN Dénia, RCR Alicante, RCN Torrevieja, and Marina Portet. Running from 12 to 15 February, the regatta features a diverse programme for youth sailors across multiple classes, concluding with the 29er fleet races as part of the Eurocup 29er, as well as the ILCA 4 class.

The 29er fleet is one of the most competitive at the event, with 278 sailors (139 boats) representing 18 countries, including Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States. Among the top entries are the 2021 world champions Mateo and Simón Codoñer, competing at home and in front of their local crowd. Other strong competitors come from France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Poland, making the fleet one of the most talented in the international Eurocup circuit.

Day 1: High winds force postponement

As forecasted, Thursday's strong winds along the Valencian coast prevented any 29er racing. Gusts exceeding 30 knotsmade it unsafe to launch the boats, and race officials spent the morning monitoring conditions and taking measurements. By 3:10 p.m., the race committee raised the "Intelligence" flag over A, officially calling off the first day of racing.

Despite the challenging conditions, the fleet remains eager to compete, and sailors are ready to take to the water as soon as conditions allow. The committee will reassess the weather for the following day to ensure safe and fair racing.

Looking ahead: early start scheduled for Day 2

To maximize racing opportunities while keeping safety a priority, the first race for the 29er fleet is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Friday, weather permitting.

With conditions expected to remain variable, sailors, coaches, and officials will continue to monitor the weather closely, aiming to provide an exciting and competitive series over the coming days. The Valencian Community Youth Olympic Week promises high-level racing and international competition, with some of the world's top young sailors on display.
