They've just won the 2025 29er EuroCup Finals in Riva del Garda, wrapping up a season marked by consistency, growth, and teamwork.
We caught up with Alexandre and Raphaël to hear about their journey from the Optimist to the top of the EuroCup podium — and their dreams for the future.
Hard work always pays off
"We've given 100% since the very first training session — all for moments like this. It's incredibly satisfying to see it pay off."
Winning in Riva wasn't a one-time surprise.
After finishing 6th at the Worlds and collecting top results across the EuroCup circuit, the French pair proved that consistency and preparation really make the difference.
"For us, the EuroCup events are training regattas where we identify our strengths and weaknesses to be as prepared as possible for the Worlds — our main goal of the year."
A turning point in Roompot
"Winning the EuroCup in Roompot gave us a real boost of energy. Staying consistent with only top-three finishes against strong competitors really built our confidence."
From Optimist to 29er
Both sailors started in Optimist — and met each other on the circuit years ago.
"We kept crossing paths at regattas," says Raphaël. "When we both wanted to move up to 29ers, teaming up felt natural."
In 2023 they joined Pôle Espoir Voile La Baule, quickly adapting to the skiff and finding roles that suited them perfectly: Alexandre at the helm, Raphaël on the wire.
Teamwork, trust, and growth
"Good communication is essential — within the crew, with the coach, and beyond. The hardest part is keeping a positive mindset on board during tough moments, knowing what to say or do to avoid getting stuck in a negative loop."
The duo's honesty with each other and their coach has been key to managing pressure:
"We're always honest about how we feel — that openness is one of our biggest strengths."
Next goals
With an incredible season behind them, the pair already have their sights set higher:
"Our goal is to race at the Youth World Sailing Championships and train hard to perform at our best during the Worlds."
And beyond that?
"We want to move into the 49er and pursue an Olympic dream. Our shared goal is to become Olympic champions one day."
