The countdown is on - just one week until entries close at midnight on 15th August for the West Lancashire Yacht Club 24 Hour Race 2025.
This year's fleet is already shaping up nicely, with 57 boats signed up and space for up to 75. That means there's still room on the start line for a few more hardy teams - in Enterprises, Fireflys, and GP14s.
If you've been sitting on the fence, now's the moment to leap off and get your club involved.
The spirit of the 24 Hour Race
The WLYC 24 Hour Race isn't just another regatta - it's an institution. For over half a century, crews from clubs all over the UK have descended on Southport Marine Lake for a weekend of non-stop, round-the-clock racing. It's a test of teamwork, stamina, and tactical nous - but it's also a festival of sailing camaraderie.
The racing is intense, but it's the shared moments - the midnight changeovers, the dawn breeze filling in, the banter in the boat park - that make it unforgettable. And thanks to last year's triumphant return, this year promises to be even better.
Why enter now?
Aside from securing your place on the line for one of dinghy sailing's most iconic events, here's what's in store:
- A legendary atmosphere - from the Friday night party to the final gun.
- Bigger and better shoreside support - more food, more variety, more fun.
- Live race reporting - keep your shore team and supporters hooked.
- A true sailing challenge - where every club's result is built on grit and good humour.
With
just 18 spots left and the closing date looming, the time to act is now.
Ready to join?
Whether you're a seasoned veteran of the Marine Lake or a 24 Hour first-timer, the invitation is open. Gather your crew, pack your spinnaker, and get ready for 13-14 September 2025.
Enter via the International GP14 Class Association website or the WLYC 24 Hour Race website - and be part of the 2025 story. Because once those entries close, you'll have to wait another year to find out why this race is talked about all year round.
