P&B Cadet UK National Championships 2025 at Brixham Yacht Club - Day 2

by Alastair Muir Wood 29 Jul 21:30 UTC 26-30 July 2025

Day 2 of the UK Cadet Class Nationals started as day 1 had with a completely still, cloudy day. Arky, our race officer, promptly raised his AP over Pennant 2.

Later in the morning he even called a second briefing to discuss how late into the evening he was prepared to race. Fortunately, as the briefing was happening, the wind-searching RIB reported 5kts in the bay and we were off with 50 boats quickly in the water.

Both fleets managed four races. In main fleet each race produced a very different result, demonstrating that consistency is currently more important then place, and the day ended with first place being closely fought over with only a single point between the top three boats: Boombastic (Hetty Thorogood and Clementine Denny-Pickess) currently first, Morwenna (Monty Hampton and Henry Yates) second, and Joint Effort (Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock) third.

In Regatta Fleet the result are more spread: with Aurora (Maddy Sherwood and Eliza Gregory) in first, Hypnosis (Charlie Jones and George Koffman) second, and third Twocan (Primrose Denny-Pickess and Penelope Reid).

Some extremely tired and hungry sailors came off the water and it is testament to the young sailors that not a single boat came back early. An informal and fun beach party was held for those who still had any energy left.
