Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2025 in Monfalcone - Day 1

by International Melges 24 Class Association 4 Jul 20:01 UTC 4-6 July 2025

The seventh leg of the 2025 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, hosted by Yacht Club Monfalcone, kicked off in promising conditions with a steady 10-knot breeze from 220 degrees. Under the expert direction of Race Committee Chair Roberto Sponza, the fleet completed three competitive races.

Taking immediate control of the leaderboard was Peter Karrie's Nefeli, posting an impressive 1-1-2 scoreline to establish an early advantage. The German team, winners of the 2025 Bacardi Cup Invitational regatta, proved once again they're in top form.

Close behind is Paolo Brescia's Melgina (3-2-1), the reigning Italian Champion, fresh off a win in Riva del Garda. In third is former European Champion Michele Paoletti with Strambapapà (2-5-3), keeping consistent pressure on the frontrunners.

Rounding out the top five are two top Corinthian teams: Michael Tarabochia's White Room (4-4-8) with Luis Tarabochia helming, and Miles Quinton's Zhik Race Team (6-6-6) with Geoff Carveth steering, showing strong early performances in the amateur division.

A fleet of eighteen Melges 24s from seven nations has gathered in Monfalcone for the penultimate key benchmark before the Melges 24 World Championship in Trieste this September. One more chance will be at the pre-Worlds in Trieste on September 5-7.

Racing resumes on Saturday, with the first warning signal scheduled for 09:30. Forecasts predict variable cloud cover and light winds, adding a tactical layer to what is already a tightly contested regatta.

The event concludes on Sunday with the prize-giving ceremony at the Yacht Club Monfalcone, where the event champions will be crowned.

The regatta is organized by Yacht Club Monfalcone, under the leadership of its President Germano Scarpa, in collaboration with the International Melges 24 Class Association and the Italian Melges 24 Class.
