Eight RS-Quests sailed to Cheltenham Beach, alongside North Head at the entrance to the Inner Waitemata Harbour, on Sunday for a barbeque lunch.

Boats were sailed to the venue from four clubs, as Auckland turned on a brillant end of Summer day, with light winds. Unfortunately Auckland Council had not removed the storm seaweed that has congregated at the northern end of the beach over the past weeks.

The RS-Quest is popular among many clubs and private owners, as a safe learn to sail and recreational sailing dinghy.

Designed by top British dinghy sailor Jo Richards, the RS Quest features a rotomolded polyethylene hull, a large self-draining cockpit, and options for both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers. Its design accommodates up to four adults, making it ideal for instructional settings and recreational sailing.

Around 20 have been sold in New Zealand for club and pivate owners.

This weekend a large fleet of RS-Revas, the most numerous two person sailing dinghy in New Zealand will compete in the class Nationals at Murrays Bay Sailing Club.
