The stage is set, the sails are ready, and the dreams are high. Today, April 13th, marks the official start of the ILCA 6 Youth European Championship 2025, hosted by Vilamoura Sailing, where 102 young women, 258 young men, and 87 coaches from 43 countries, gather to compete, connect, and chase a future that, for many, includes the Olympic Games.

Although the waters of Vilamoura have been buzzing with activity since April 11th—when registration and equipment inspection began—it is today that truly sets the tone, as the Opening Ceremony took place at 18:00, officially launching one of the most exciting youth sailing events of the year.

This championship isn't just about competition; it's about shaping the next generation of elite sailors. The athletes, aged 15 to 18, represent the very best of youth sailing talent, many of whom have their sights firmly set on future Olympic campaigns. Over the next three days (April 14-16), they will compete in qualification races, testing their skill, resilience, and tactical intelligence on the international stage.

All sailors will then move forward to the final series, which takes place on April 17th, 18th, and 19th. Based on their performance in the qualifying rounds, they will be divided into different fleets, where they will continue to battle for their final positions and the title of European Champion.

Nuno Reis, CEO of Prow Group, the event's organising partner, emphasised the broader impact of the championship:

"This championship is more than a competition - it's a powerful symbol of what the future of sailing holds. We are witnessing not only the talent of tomorrow but also the determination, discipline, and ambition that define true champions. Vilamoura is proud to host these young athletes and to provide the conditions where excellence can thrive - on and off the water."

Vilamoura, already renowned as one of the world's premier sailing venues, is proud to once again serve as the launchpad for young sailors' aspirations. With perfect training conditions, world-class infrastructure, and a passionate team behind the scenes, this event promises not just thrilling races, but unforgettable memories.
