2025 GL52 Southern Showdown at Pensacola - Day 2
by GL52 Series 12 Apr 21:59 UTC
April 10-13, 2025
Races 4 and 5 of the GL52 Southern Showdown were sailed in shifty conditions of 11-17 knots of wind yesterday on the flat waters of Pensacola Bay.
Peter Askew's WIZARD won the first start and led the fleet around the race course to score their third bullet of the regatta. After an over-early / restart Victor Wild's FOX was able to catch up to tie with VESPER 52 for 2nd place (on corrected time). Each was awarded 2.5 points.
Sans over-early/restart, Race 5 was much like Race 4 with WIZARD leading the fleet around the track until the penultimate mark rounding where FOX took the lead and sailed the final downwind leg to finish first.
After five races, WIZARD tops the leaderboard with 7.0 points and FOX is currently in 2nd place with 10.5 points. In third and fourth places Doug DeVos' WINDQUEST and David Team's VESPER have 18.0 and 19.5 points respectively. John Huhn's KATANA is still in the mix with 24.0 points and Andrew Berdon's SUMMER STORM team are fighting their way back in this highly competitive fleet after breakdowns.
