The International J/70 Class Association continues to grow and evolve, debuting the Corinthian European Championship this year in Cascais Portugal.
Amateur racing in the J/70 is in high demand, evidenced by the 54 teams participating in this new continental format, at the home of the 2026 J/70 World Championship.
Conditions were rocking and rolling in Cascais Bay with breeze in the upper teens, plus swells, to challenge teams and equipment. Seventeen nations are competing: AUS, BRA, CHN, ESP, EST, FIN, FRA, GBR, GER, HUN, ITA, MEX, NED, POR, SWE, TUR, USA.
The top three boats are keeping competition tight in the initial three races. Renato Cunha Faria of Brazil tallied scores of 1,4,12 for 17 points, only one point in advance of two Spanish teams—Javier Padron of Spain (5,3,10) and Alejandro Perez Garcia-Duran (4,7,7).
