Trellys Fishing Report

by Trelly's 28 Mar 05:49 UTC

Corio Bay

Landbased fishing this past week has offered a great variety species on the chew with the Geelong waterfront proving to be one of the standout locations. Anglers have found good numbers of Pinkie Snapper, Flathead, Salmon and even a few Bream getting around.

Anglers targeting the bream have found best success sight casting them along the many structures that the waterfront holds, Small vibes, Crab style lures and soft plastics are all well worth throwing and of course bait is a great option too. As for all the other species soft plastics are working very well as expected, in particular 2 - 4 inch with a curl, paddle or fork tail with natural colours working best.

Bellarine Peninsula

The Bellarine Peninsula has been fishing very well this past week with king George Whiting hot on the chew with Clifton Springs, Portarlington and St Leonards all producing the goods. The Further around you go towards St Leonards the better the fishing is proving to be as of late. With strong tides predicated this weekend we can expect some even better fishing than what it has been. Pipis and Squid are always going to be hard to beat baits with a small bit of Burley in a cage on the bottom definitely plays a big factor.

Swan Bay

Swan Bay has offered some great fishing this week for kayak and small boat fishos with Pinky snapper, trevally and Gummy Sharks all lurking around in great numbers. Anglers bait fishing with Salmon, squid, trevally and Slimy Mackerel have been getting amongst all 3 listed fish with gummy sharks to over a metre, snapper to 3kg and trevally to 45cm. Aston Stavropoulos has been finding good numbers of gummies in here lately fishing from his kayak with salted mackerel proving to be the standout bait.

The RIP

Yelowtail kingfish still remain on the chew in the RIP this past week, although not heaps of fish being reported there are still a few reports coming through most days. Can except this next moon to stir some of the fish up and fire up a bite.

Goulburn River

The Goulburn river has been flowing hard over the last couple of weeks and is now slowly dropping.

It will take a few weeks for the river to get back to a standard level and a decent clarity. This high water hasn't completely shut down the fish with a hand full of reports coming in from those fishing from the banks of the Goulburn. It's mostly been cod and carp caught on both scrub worms and night crawlers weighted with a heavy sinker. But there has been a couple of Yellowbelly caught casting square bills around the flooded banks. Surface fishing on these flooded banks has also been an option with a couple of cod caught this way.

Broken River

The river is running slightly higher than last week and this flush of water has really fired the Yellowbelly up. Tn60 jackals in brown Dog have been the stand out lure around the weirs with plenty of Yellowbelly caught in those areas. Small Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits have worked well along the broken river drive stretch of river. Surface fishing hasn't yet slowed own with some locals reporting up to 5 cod caught in a session with some legal fish amongst the smaller ones Bait fishing has been productive with Yellowbelly biting well on both shrimp and yabbies. Cod are taking a liking to Bardi Grubs and cheese with carp being caught regularly on worms and corn.

Kialla lakes

The lakes have got a flush of fresh water which has fired up the edge bite.

Yellowbelly and Redfin have been reported regularly since the rain last week with a heap of fish being caught super shallow. Small divers, jerk baits and bent minnows have been great for those fishing the edges. There is a concrete strip that runs around most of the lake and this is a key area to target when the water rises.Bait fishing around the trees has been great with both Yellowbelly and Redfin caught by those floating worms and small yabbies in the shallows near the trees.

Arcadia Fish Out Pond

The pond out at Arcadia has been fishing great lately with plenty of cod being reported.

Bait fishing with Bardi grubs and scrub worms has been great with cod being caught regularly through the day. Those Lure fishing have mostly been catching cod in the mornings or afternoons.

Spinnerbaits, square bills and Codgers have all worked well from the banks of the pond with fish being caught both shallow around the edges or out a bit deeper..
